Our Garden

‘The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. They always look forward to doing something better than they have ever done before.’

Seasonality

We love being led by the changing seasons. The excitement of what’s going to pop open next and dazzle us with it’s beauty.

We believe as gardener-florists it’s so important to be inspired by what’s around you, to live in the moment. To cherish and use what is available now and let the flower’s lead and inspire your designs. Enjoy the individual curves and shapes of the branches and stems that you get from natural home growing rather than straight and regimented stems from wholesale.

We choose new things to grow each year. We choose these by what makes our hearts sing, not what is especially on trend although we do keep an eye out for that too. We love the unusual, the peculiar, the things that make you say ‘ooh what is that?’

Sustainability

Being kind to our planet is something we feel is key to our philosophy. From the beginning of our flowers journey, we use natural peat-free compost and recycled plastic pots. Once at the floral design stage we use only biodegradable foam, but wherever possible we go foam free. At the end of the flowers life we compost all green waste to re-use on our garden in seasons to come. Any flower or grass picked but not used we will dry. This adds an extra dimension in floral arrangements and means nothing goes to waste.

People, Place and Passion

We share a passion for our garden and this has grown into the business of growing flowers and foliage for all your floral arrangements.

Harriet Whitbread is our florist and brings her creative eye from Art and Textile Design to our floral arrangements.

Penny Whitbread began work with houseplants at Geest in Spalding and progressed to Buyer for Boots Prestige Perfumery and then fifteen years in dispensary and practice management but flowers are in her DNA. Her Aunt trained with Constance Spry and spent many years with Pulbrook and Gould in London.

Rhoddy’s first job was in a nursery but after almost fifty years in medicine has come back to his roots.
